"Context" Disscussed at Drupalcon 2008
Moving from traditional CMSs to Drupal, we were faced with a challenge - where do pages/blocks "live". In many other CMSs, the site is set up with a folder structure, so breadcrumbs and active navigation are obvious. However, in Drupal, everything lives at the top level. At my company, we solved this by looking at the url (which is aliased to reflect nesting), the content type or a taxonomy we created for "site section". It isn't a pretty solution, but it does work. Other considerations include the referring page. Supposedly, the challenge of "context" was discussed at many sessions last week and we aren't the only company coming up with creative hacks to address it. The rumor is that version 7 will have built in solutions. I can't wait!
